Are There Toothpastes That Fight Gum Disease?

Posted on 4/15/2024 by Weo Admin
Toothpaste from Dynamic Dental Care in Spokane, WAGum disease is fairly common in adults, and at any one time, 40 percent of adults have periodontal disease. Whether you are in the early stage of gum disease or the later stages of the disease, you will want to treat it as thoroughly as possible to continue to have healthy teeth and gums.

What Is Gum Disease?

A bacteria that is always present in your mouth causes gum disease. Several bacteria cause gum disease, and there are some bacteria that are worse than others. If gum disease is not treated with better self-cleaning as well as deep cleaning dental procedures, it can result in tooth loss and inflammation throughout the body. Gum disease has three stages. Stage one, or gingivitis, leaves your gums red, bleeding, or swollen. Stages two and three involve bone and tissue loss.

What Should I Look For In a Toothpaste For Fighting Gum Disease?

If you know that you have gum disease, you will want to find a toothpaste that fights the disease and keeps your teeth as clean as possible. Here are some elements of your toothpaste you will want to watch for.

First, be sure that the toothpaste you are using contains fluoride. Fluoride helps your teeth fight bacteria that cause gum disease, and it helps to keep your teeth strong and healthy. You want to make sure the toothpaste you are looking at contains stannous fluoride because it has microbial agents specifically targeting gum disease-causing bacteria. Also, stannous fluoride relieves gum inflammation.

After you make sure you have toothpaste with fluoride, check for a few other things that might benefit your teeth. First, you will want to look for natural cleaners, such as baking soda, and natural inflammation reducers, like aloe vera or chamomile, that add to your improving gum health. Second, make sure you look for vitamins that may aid in gum health or blood flow. Check and make sure you are taking Vitamins A and C and magnesium for gum health if they are not in your toothpaste.
