Laser Dentistry
Spokane, WA

Laser DentistryLasers conjure up all kinds of images. If you are of a certain age, you remember the movie “Real Genius”. In the movie, two boys invented a laser, and it blew through many walls as well as statues before it came to a stop. While the boys in “Read Genius” popped a mountain of popcorn with their laser, our laser does other things. We use our laser to perform work on your mouth, teeth and gums without a lot of pain or bleeding. While lasers were not present in our practice decades ago, they are now used frequently. We love our lasers, and we love using them to fix problems with your mouth. We can actually use less sutures to help you recover faster. Give Dynamic Dental Care a minute to talk to you about laser dentistry.

What Are Lasers?

Did you know that lasers are amplified light? Light is usually diffused - or scattered - when we see it. A rainbow demonstrates what happens when light is diffused. Lasers concentrate the light instead of diffusing it. They were first created in the 1960s, but lasers weren’t used in medicine until about 20 years ago. As lasers continue to advance, they may eventually replace knives, scalpels, even dental tools. Lasers are amazing when they are used in medicine. Lasers don’t make an incision, which means we don’t have to put stitches in your mouth. Lasers also make wounds less painful, because they instantly cauterize a wound. This makes dental surgery cleaner and cheaper.

Lasers in Dentistry

We use lasers for lots of reasons in dentistry. Lasers are great for soft tissues. Instead of using drills on a cavity, we can get a laser to fix your cavity. Because lasers are so concentrated, they can be used on a cavity quickly. They can also be used to kill bacteria before we fill the hole in the cavity as well. If we use a laser on your cavities, we can help prevent infection.

Lasers can also be used to treat gum disease, because they get rid of bacteria quickly, even from a little below the gumline. When we use a laser with gum cleaning, it may mean that you have less bleeding and pain that when we use other tools. Lasers can be used to treat tooth sensitivity, which means that you won’t experience pain when you are eating or drinking. Lasers are used to treat too much gum tissue as well. We can use a laser to cut into your gums to reduce them with very little pain and bleeding. We can even use lasers to whiten your teeth quickly if you suddenly find yourself posing for a lot of pictures. There are a lot of uses for lasers, so we can’t possibly name all of them.
