 Most people know that they can get dentures if they need them, but many people don’t know that if you need dentures quickly, we have the technology to get your dentures on the same day. This wasn’t always the case. In the past, people lost teeth gradually, and when their last tooth came out, they would get dentures. If your teeth were lost due to a traumatic accident or injury, in the past, you would have to wait to get dentures.
You would come in and get molds made of your teeth, and you would have to wait weeks for your new dentures to come in. While you waited, you had to get along without your natural teeth. You had to eat a liquid or soft food diet. You were careful not to try and smile - or even speak. However, no matter how you lost your teeth, now you don’t have to wait for dentures. Why Same Day Dentures?
We recognize that not everyone needs same day dentures. However, there are times when same day dentures are really important. For example, if you were driving a car, and you were in an accident, you might need to be fitted with dentures if your teeth are badly injured. There are times when people are hit in the face with an object, and they lose all of their teeth. Of course, our first priority is to save your teeth.
However, we also understand that it might not be possible in every case to save your teeth. If we have to try and heal your mouth, we don’t want you to have to wait for dentures. We want you to have something in place while you recover. Same day dentures allow you to have the function of teeth, while you make a decision about your dental needs moving forward.
How Do Same Day Dentures Work?
Sometimes, we know in advance that we will have to remove the rest of your teeth. When that happens, we can take molds of your remaining teeth, and craft dentures that are similar to the teeth you lost. However, if you lose your teeth all at once, no worries. We can use your previous x-rays or old tooth impressions to make a set of same day dentures for you on the spot.
Before we can put same day dentures in, we will have to extract your remaining teeth. Then we can place your dentures while you wait. However, there are some things you need to know up front. First, you may have to come back in to have your dentures adjusted. This is especially true if you had facial injuries. Once the swelling and trauma in your mouth decreases, you may need to have another fitting to make sure your dentures fit the right way. Also, bring your dentures when you come in to see us every six months. We will make sure that they are cleaned, fit properly, and that you aren’t having any problems.
